Little Brown and Company will release Catherine Hardwicke's book Twilight: Director's Notebook on March 17, just in time for the March 21 release of Twilight on DVD, EW has learned exclusively. The book will include inside secrets on casting, location scouting, and wardrobe -- plus behind-the-scenes photos, personal notes about Hardwicke's favorite scenes, and more.

"With this book, I tried to show fans and future directors some of the process that the crew and I went through filming Twilight," said Hardwicke, who started as a prodcution designer for films like Tank Girl and Vanilla Sky before making her directorial debut with 2003's Thirteen. "My challenge was to translate Stephenie [Meyer]'s powerful book and make you feel what she makes you feel when you read her works."

February 4, 2009 (New York, NY) — Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, a division of Hachette Book Group, will release Catherine Hardwicke's Twilight: Director's Notebook as a one-day laydown on March 17, 2009, it was announced today by Megan Tingley, the division's Senior Vice President and Publisher. This intimate look at the making of Summit Entertainment's film follows visionary director Hardwicke through the creative process.

Designed to replicate the director's own personal notebook that she kept on set, readers will discover the inside secrets on casting, location scouting and wardrobe to storyboard sketches, behind-the-scenes photographs, personal notes about Catherine's favorite scenes and much more. This one-of-a-kind experience for all Twilight fans will be released in hardcover for $17.99 with an announced first printing of 500,000 copies.

"With this book, I tried to show fans and aspiring filmmakers some of the process that the crew and I went through filming Twilight," said Hardwicke. "My challenge was to translate Stephenie's powerful book and make you feel what she makes you feel when you read her words."

The movie version of Twilight has grossed over $340 million worldwide since its release on November 21, 2008. The movie debuted at #1 at the box office with $70 million, making it the highest debut for a female director. Twilight: Director's Notebook is being released just in time for the March 21st multi-million copy release of Twilight on DVD.

In three years, Stephenie Meyer has become a worldwide publishing phenomenon. The Twilight Saga's translation rights have been sold in 39 countries and over 42 million copies have been sold worldwide. The last book in the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn, sold 1.3 million copies in its first day on-sale, breaking publisher records.

Catherine Hardwicke trained as an architect at the University of Texas, and started in film as a production designer. She designed over 20 films, including Tombstone, Tank Girl, Three Kings, and Vanilla Sky. Hardwicke's debut as a feature film co-writer and director was the Sundance award winning Thirteen. Made for under $2 million dollars, it garnered an Academy Award-nomination for Holly Hunter. She has since directed Lords of Dogtown, The Nativity Story, and most recently, Twilight.

Grāmatā būšot 176 lpp.. :) Vairāk, nekā Twilight: The Complete Illustrated Movie Companion. Ceru, ka būs daudz bilžuku. :D
Njap, bet grāmatu izdos cietajos vākos...

Robert Pattinson: Twilight Director’s Diaries!

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke gives EW a first look at her diary from the smash hit in this week’s issue – and talks about why she left a franchise she loved.

She had been negotiating a way to direct the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s monster-selling sequel New Moon, and the talks had reached the breaking point. Summit Entertainment offered her a queenly sum to resume her place at the helm – “more money than I or anyone in my family has ever seen,” says Hardwicke – but told her she’d be working with a tight deadline and a modest budget.

Regretfully, she told the execs they needed to find themselves a new director. “I was devastated,” she says. “I really did feel a strong connection to the people around the world that liked the movie – and to Stephenie and the actors. But I just didn’t think I could make a good movie under those circumstances.”

Hardwicke first began discussing Twilight: Director’s Notebook with Meyer’s publisher last summer, and then Twilight went on to gross over $350 million worldwide (so far). “When the movie made enough money, they thought it was worth it,” says Hardwicke. “They said, ‘Now you have three and a half weeks to do it!’ And I was like, Okay, I’m just going to keep writing until they rip this out of my hands!”

New Moon is already deep into pre-production under new director Chris Weitz but Hardwicke notes the irony that her replacement is enjoying a better deal than she’d been promised. “I know the budget they were talking about with me – they’ve already gone way beyond that,” she said. But she’s done nursing her broken heart. “I’m optimistic that it’s going to be great, and I’m sad that it didn’t work out for me to do it,” she said. “But I’ll do something else cool.”

Hardwicke’s diary includes Kathy’s original watercolor of Edward with long hair and brown contacts: “I thought he would look good with long ‘timeless’ hair, so Rob [Pattinson] spent 8 hours in the chair. Nicole Frank, assistant hair stylist, put in extensions. Rob HATED them. The next day Nicole yanked them out and she and MaryAnn and Rob started working on the now-famous Edward hairstyle.”
