México DF – November 16, 2007 - In an event last night in Mexico City, Telemundo celebrated the start of production of "EL ENGAÑO" (The Betrayal), the first original novela to be produced in Mexico by Telemundo Studios Mexico. It stars Fernando Carrillo and Gaby Espino, along with a stellar cast including Susana Dosamantes, Héctor Bonilla, Dominika Paleta, Salvador Pineda, Héctor Suárez Gomís, Tina Romero and Harry Geithner, among others. "EL ENGAÑO" will be broadcast in the United States on the Telemundo Network near the beginning of 2008.
Telemundo has also announced that Fernando Carrillo and Gaby Espino have signed an exclusive contract with the network, effective with the beginning of this project.
Santiago de Landeros (Fernando Carrillo) romances and seduces Andrea Robles Conde (Gaby Espino) in order to avenge the death of his brother Diego Platas (Harry Geithner), who killed himself because of a woman who betrayed him and left him bankrupt. Through a series of coincidences and misunderstandings, Santiago comes to believe that Andrea is that woman; he marries her and takes her away to a remote hacienda where he makes her life hell. By the time Santiago learns that it was not Andrea but his cousin Alma (Dominika Paleta) who drove his brother to his death, it's too late… he has lost Andrea and she despises him. What will Santiago do to regain Andrea's love?
Taping of this high-definition production will take place on location with the support of the governments of Hidalgo and Querétaro. A number of squares, haciendas and picturesque settings have been selected in those areas to capture the magic and local color of Mexico. A grand residence in Mexico City will also serve as a backdrop for the story.
This telenovela is directed by José Acosta Navas and Mauricio Meneses, and produced by Rafael Urióstegui. The Creative Vice President of Telemundo Studios Mexico and Executive Producer of this project is María Catalina "M-K" Kennedy.
