The four protagonists - Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross), and Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria Parker) - as well as the series' narrator, Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong), are contracted to return this season. This is the last year that they contracted into and they are yet to make the decision to return for any subsequent seasons. Drea de Matteo (Angie Bolen) and Jeffrey Nordling (Nick Bolen) have left the series, as their characters have left for Atlanta. Beau Mirchoff (Danny Bolen) has left the series, as his character has left for New York.
Dana Delany (Katherine Mayfair) is not expected to return as a series regular, as her ABC pilot Body of Proof has been picked up. However, Marc Cherry has stated Delany has an open invitation to return anytime she wants, whether or not her new series is a success.
Ricardo Antonio Chavira (Carlos Solis), Doug Savant (Tom Scavo) and James Denton (Mike Delfino) are all expected to return as main characters; It is expected that Kathryn Joosten will return as Karen McCluskey, as a main cast member. Mark Moses will reprise his role as Paul Young, original 'baddie', widower of Mary Alice Young and the man who killed Martha Huber. Paul Young will be the center of season seven's mystery. His new wife will have a secret.
Vanessa L. Williams of Ugly Betty fame has joined the cast of Desperate Housewives as Renée Perry, an old college friend and rival of Lynette. However, it was confirmed that her character won't have a connection to the season's mystery, but she will have a secret.
Tuc Watkins (Bob Hunter) and Kevin Rahm (Lee McDermott) will return as series regulars.
Kyle McLachlan (Orson Hodge) will not be returning as a series regular, but will put in an appearance or two to wrap up his storyline. There are no plans just yet for Paul's son, Zach (Cody Kasch), to return.
Harriet Sansom Harris is returning as Paul Young's arch-nemesis, Felicia Tilman.
Brian Austin Green is guest starring as Keith, a charming contractor, in a multi-episode arc.
Emily Bergl will play Paul Young's new wife, Beth.
Andrea Bowen (Julie Mayer) will not be returning to Desperate Housewives.
Cheryl Cole is being considered for a role on Desperate Housewives.
Rebecca Creskoff is coming to Desperate Housewives to play Susan Mayer's adversary.
Storylines
After losing her business and Orson, her husband, Bree begins the process of rebuilding her life by telling Gaby a secret that could end their friendship; Lynette and Tom face a rough road ahead as they welcome a fifth child to their ever growing brood; and Susan and Mike's financial woes have forced them to rent out their house and leave Wisteria Lane. But when Paul Young mysteriously returns to the neighborhood as the new tenant, suspicions will rise. His new wife, Beth, joins him on Wisteria Lane, as he's remarried and a family will find out that one of their children is not their own.
