Sižets: The story begins in Tuxtla Gutierrez, capital of the state of Chiapas, Mexico. It is about a young woman, Ana Paula Carmona Flores (Ana Brenda Contreras) who, after caring for her gravely ill mother, finds that her true calling in the nursing profession. Ana Paula and her brother, Miguel (Osvaldo Benavides), live with and support their manipulative aunt Rosaura Flores Nava (Ana Bertha Espin). When Miguel, Ana Paula's brother, gets into some serious trouble with the law, and her Aunt's attempt to exchange Ana Paula's favors for the rent owed, the family meets Bruno Rey (Julian Gil), an attorney who works for Rogelio Montero Baez (Jorge Salinas), the wealthy and influential owner of the Hacienda Del Fuerte, located in the town of San Gabriel. Bruno is looking for a nurse to care for his boss. In exchange for representing her brother and paying his fines, Ana Paula accepts Bruno's offer to be the nurse to Rogelio. Ana Paula travels with Bruno to the Hacienda Del Fuerte where she will transform her new boss's life, and her own life will also never be the same.

The family's economic situation is very precarious. They live in a humble house rented from Don Maximo (Javier Ruan), a malicious man who, unable to woo Ana Paula, decides to put them out onto the streets and accuse the girl of attempted murder. When Max attempts to attack Ana Paula, she defends herself and as a result Max's hand is cut with a broken bottle. Ana Paula's brother has a girlfriend, Dany (Ingrid Martz), who is very supportive and loyal. She is also best friends with Ana Paula, and they both studied to be nurses at the same time. But Ana Paula did not anticipate having to work in very difficult conditions on the distant and isolated "Hacienda Del Fuerte."

At "La Hacienda Del Fuerte" Rogelio lives with his sister Cinthia (Susana González), who feels trapped because her brother (Rogelio) does not give her part of the heritage she deserves. Instead, he forces her to stay by his side and care for him. As a result of her boredom at staying at the Hacienda, Cynthia gets entangled with Efrain Rios (Fabián Robles), Rogelio's foreman, who truly loves her. Cinthia and Efrian have a dysfunctional attraction; not able to stay away from each other, but unable to overcome the distinction of social classes that separate them. Efrian often turns to Consuelo Herrera (Michelle Ramaglia), a maid who innocently loves him. Knowing what has been done by Bruno to Ana Paula, making Rogelio is very angry with Bruno.

Ana Paula works with the grumpy Rogelio as his nurse, finding him difficult and offensive, but at other times he shows a softer side. While working at the hacienda, she encounters Ing. Gustavo Duran (Jose Ron) and they have an instant connection, but circumstances separate them for a time. Rogelio's sister wants Rogelio to reconcile with Vanesa, his ex, but he is not receptive to the idea. Meanwhile, Cynthia and Efrian continue to play out their dysfunctional on-and-off again romantic relationship. Vanesa asks for divorce from Ernesto (Marco Méndez) but he tries to hold onto her, while she tries to pursue Rogelio. Rogelio tells Ana Paula about the first person that she has back to trust. Consuelo, the trusting maid who loves Efrian, enters Cynthia room for cleaning the bedroom and finds a scarf of Efrain, and suspects the relationship between Efrain and Cynthia. Vanesa's father, Federico (Humberto Elizondo) advises his daughter not to miss what is something that will probably never come. Vanessa finds Ana Paula, still working as Rogelio's nurse, to be competition to Rogelio's heart, and warns Ana Paula to stay away from him and tries to make life difficult for her.

When Vanesa met with Bruno, Bruno told Vanesa that they can make money, as long as you convince Rogelio, to continue to have a family enterprise. Then he said also that, if this is successful then his father would give the commission, but this should not be known by Rogelio, because if that happens then Rogelio can kill him. At the Hacienda Del Fuerte also lives Maria Gomez (Ana Martín) and Consuelo's godmother, a kind woman who has been like a mother to Rogelio and Cynthia was her nanny and is now responsible for their care. And as a touch of joy in the strict environment at the hacienda, the young boy Margarito is charming and innocent. He was left in the care of the hacienda, as he has no family of his own. Ana Paula encounters Gustavo again; he's a noble, hard-working engineer, who has a nursing sister, named Mercedes (Anahis). They fall in love but their happiness is cut short because Rogelio also falls for her, forming a love triangle with terrible consequences. When Miguel is involved in a terrible accident and is about to lose the hand and go to jail for life, Rogelio offers to save him if Ana Paula will marry him (Rogelio). She sacrifices herself for her brother, when he discovers that she loves another.

It is only at the end of the story that true love triumphs and Ana Paula can choose freely whether to keep her husband or her first love.
